I’m genuinely shocked reading this.
FDA just busted a racket in Navi Mumbai where people were literally erasing expiry dates on Maggi, Lay’s, Kurkure and selling them again.
What happened
Maharashtra FDA + Navi Mumbai Crime Branch did a 6-day raid between Aug 24 and Aug 29 at Sadhana Enterprises in Turbhe.
What did they find? 4,942 cartons of expired food worth ₹75 lakh+
The scam was simple and dirty. They’d take expired stock from export companies, use thinner to erase the original manufacturing and expiry dates, then use an inkjet printer to print new fresh dates. For some products they even pasted new stickers over ingredients and nutritional info.
What brands were involved
This wasn’t some local brand. Lay’s, Kurkure, Bingo, Fun Flips, Maggi Masala & Atta Noodles, Knorr, Rasoi, Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, Thums Up, Limca were all found there.
FDA says this stock was meant for export but was being repackaged to sell in the domestic market. 10-13 exporter firms are named in the FIR including companies from Noida, Delhi, and Mumbai.
The people behind it
Run by Jayprakash Singh and Jaya Singh at Sadhana Enterprises, Plot C-849, TTC Industrial Area, Turbhe. FIR has been registered at Turbhe Police Station under Food Safety Act. FDA licence cancelled with immediate effect.
Tukaram Mundhe, FDA Commissioner Maharashtra, confirmed the seizure.
Why this matters
Bro. This is food we eat daily. Maggi for late night. Lay’s with chai. Kurkure for kids. And someone thought it was smart to wipe the expiry date and sell it again?
FDA said some of this stuff was already in circulation. That’s the scary part.
What you should do
- Check dates carefully when you buy packaged food
- Look for tampered stickers or smudged printing
- If something feels off, complain to FDA
This raid happened in Navi Mumbai but FDA says similar export stock gets diverted across India.
