Redmi 17 5G India: 7900mAh Battery Beast But HD+ Screen at 24k Makes No Sense

Redmi 17 5G launched in India at 23,999 with massive 7900mAh battery, 45W charging, Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. But HD+ display at 24k is a big compromise. Check specs, price, sale date and who should buy it.

Redmi 17 5G launched and I need to talk about it because the choices Xiaomi made are confusing.

The Good Part

7900mAh battery.

With 45W charging and they are actually putting the charger in box. Not a 10W brick. 22.5W reverse charging too.

In India we got 400mah more than global which is 7500mah. Small win but still.

If you’re a delivery guy, or travel a lot, or just hate charging, this is the phone. It’ll do 3 days easy.

Price & Sale

Price is 23,999 for 6GB 128GB and 26,999 for 8GB 128GB after bank offers. MRP is 39,999 and 41,999 which is a joke.

Sale starts September 10 on Amazon and Mi stores.

Now the part that annoyed me

Display. 6.9 inch. 120Hz. Gorilla Glass 7i. 825 nits peak brightness.

All sounds fine until you see HD+. Not FHD+. HD+.

In 2026. At 24k.

I understand the logic. 7900mah battery + HD+ panel = insane battery life.

But man, every other phone at this price gives you FHD+ AMOLED. iQOO, Realme, even some Motorolas.

Watching videos on HD+ feels like a downgrade in 2026. Xiaomi chose battery over everything and it shows.

Processor & Performance

Processor is Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 on 4nm. First phone in India with it.

It’s an efficiency chip. Not for gaming.

Daily stuff will be smooth. Instagram, YouTube, WhatsApp, no issues.

But don’t buy this expecting BGMI 60fps or Genshin. You’ll be disappointed.

That’s the trade off for 3 day battery.

Camera & Other Stuff

Camera is 50MP main sensor. It’s Redmi so expectations should be realistic.

Daylight photos are fine. Night is average with noise.

Software side is actually good. HyperOS 3 on Android 16 out of the box.

That means 3 years of OS updates and 4 years security. Better than most at this price.

They also kept the headphone jack. Stereo speakers are there. IP64 rating for splash resistance.

Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC included too.

Build wise it’s plastic but with Gorilla Glass 7i on front.

So who is this for?

Honestly? People whose biggest complaint is “my phone dies”.

If you charge twice a day and want that to stop, nothing at 24k beats this.

Who should skip?

Anyone who cares about screen quality, gaming, or camera.

At 24k you can get better AMOLED displays and faster chips. You just won’t get 7900mah.

Xiaomi basically made a power bank with a phone attached.

At 19k this would be the default recommendation. At 24k it’s a niche pick.

I’m still torn. Battery life is amazing but the HD+ hurts.

What do you guys think, would you take 3 days battery over a good screen?
